We’re into May now and as we look forward to all the lovely weather we know we are going to get this year, we are also looking forward to all the great shows and other events coming up in the final few weeks of the academic year.
Let’s get started on what has been happening so far.
All About the Energy
The pictures show three of the 1st year group at the WILO Pump Manufacturer’s stand, who as part of the visit, wish to commit to involve themselves in more extensive dialogue with the college Service and Maintenance personnel, with a view to doing in-college presentations and supplying hardware to the college.
Schneider Electrics and Worcester Bosch, have also committed to doing likewise.
The event proved to be very popular and it was a very busy night.
Congratulations to all the students involved in the exhibition.
Capturing Digital Images
The exhibition, by Skills for Life Learning and Work and Development 2 students, is being held at the Springburn campus, ground floor corridor beside the music department. This will run from the 3rd of May until the 3rd of June 2016
Throughout the year the students have taking various photographs around Glasgow. This exhibition shows some of the group’s favourite work.
Hard Rock ‘Park’ Café
This theme was chosen by Level 5 and will be held on Thursday 12th May, so be prepared for a rocking time with great food and service from level 4 and 5 Catering students.
Wednesday the 4th of May saw the opening night of the production ‘Our House’ at The Platform in Easterhouse.
Brought to you by Glasgow Kelvin College HND Musical Theatre, our House explores the themes of love, family values, growing up, responsibility and dealing with losing the people that shape us.
The HND Sound Production students were also involved in the production. It was a really busy night, there was a great atmosphere and the audience was captivated by an incredible cast.
A Gem of a Society
Of the nine prizes available, six were won by either current or former Glasgow Kelvin College students. The ceremony was held at Peebles Hydro to coincide with the SGA annual conference.
Congratulations to them all.
Attenborough’s Life that Glows
If you are an avid David Attenborough fan, then you will know that he is celebrating his 90th birthday this month and he has a new show on BBC 2 on Monday 9 June 2016. Well David isn’t the only one with something to celebrate as our very own Fraser Purdie is glowing a little himself after completing the sound for Attenborough’s Life that Glows. Digital Dynamo – make your vote count
The College’s John Wheatley Learning Network, run in partnership with Wheatley Group and North East Glasgow Community Planning Partnership, has been nominated in the ‘Digital Dynamo’ category at the Scottish Charity Awards. This is great recognition of the work and impact of the network and we are keeping our fingers crossed that this highly successful initiative wins through. There is also a People’s Choice Award and to vote for the network in this, just show your support by clicking HERE and casting your vote.
The Glasgow Kelvin College Fashion Show will be taking place on Thursday the 12th of May 2016 in St Andrews in the Square and is a real collaboration of students from several areas working together including sound, beauty, hair and events management.
This event and others that have been run by the fashion students throughout the year will raise funds in aid of Rainbow Valley.
The shows will run at
- 1.00 pm – Schools Show – Sold Out
- 6.00 pm – Limited tickets available contact fashion department staff.

Degree Show 2016
The college has so much talent on display at the moment and we can assure you that the Art, Fashion and Jewellery Degree Show for 2016 won’t disappoint.
The show will be taking place in our West end Campus in Hotspur street, kicking off with the opening evening on the 3rd of June at 5.30pm. Running during the West End Festival the show is sure to attract a varied audience and is an excellent opportunity for GKC to show off the work of our talented students.

Electric Honey Presents
They will present Schnarff Schnarff, Be Charlotte and The Claramasa at the West end festival show. Tickets cost £5 each.
