Getting back into the swing of things here are GKC and it has been a busy week with talks, fundraising and collaborations.
We also have plenty of pictures for you to view, so let’s get started.
Bad Girls The Musical – A Roaring Success!
HND Year 2 Musical theatre opened with Bad Girls the musical last week, under the direction of Lisa-Jayne Rattray.
After an intense rehearsal schedule, it was time to open to the public… we could not have wished for a better response. The cast received standing ovations every performance and performed to a sold out house on the Friday evening.
The audience comments were overwhelming and the buzz about the show on social media created quite a stir!

Skills for Learning Fundraising
As part of the ‘Fundraising’ unit Paul Ronald is currently delivering for Skills for Learning Life and Work Level 1, in our East End campus, our learners have recently raised £41 for Dogs Trust, Glasgow by participating in a sponsored Jigsaw marathon.
On Wednesday the 11th of January the students travelled over to the centre for a fantastic tour of the facility, As well as meeting staff and a variety of dogs, it also allowed the learners to present a cheque to Dogs Trust Glasgow.
The Fitness, Health and Exercise HNC and HND students have been volunteering during their lunch break to ensure that colleagues and learners of Glasgow Kelvin College have completed a safe, gym induction.
They are also at hand for any queries / advice that the gym users may have whilst they are in the gym.
A handful of HNC students (John, Roisin, Claire and Dominic) regularly teach the Monday lunch time ‘Hatton Boxing’ class; again sacrificing their lunch break to ensure that staff and learners have a fit, fun lunchtime activity.
To date; over 100 gym users have benefitted from the inductions and fitness classes – well done to all those who have volunteered and those who have been inducted.
If you would like a gym induction, then please go HERE to book a slot.
Embracing Diversity Competition 2016-17.
The College will be running a competition for learners to showcase how they embrace diversity throughout the College. Entries are encouraged from individuals or teams and can be showcased in a variety of ways. The entries must be original projects produced by the learners.
We want to encourage our students to participate in this to help us further mainstream equalities in our learning and teaching and to assist in breaking down barriers and increase understanding of the diverse nature of our College and of the wider community of Glasgow.
There will be prizes for the learners and the winners will be entered into a regional final. All the details and the entry forms will be on the website shortly.
ESOL Students and Music Collaboration
ESOL students from National 3, 4 and 5 (Stage 1) enjoyed limbering up with vocal exercises, following a song (The Promise) from rehearsal to performance, jamming and sampling the atmosphere of the recording studios where the finished product is put together.
The students were full of enthusiasm, with stories of childhood clarinet lessons, piano keyboard skills, a desire to drum and student, Susan Tong, said “music is my focus”.
Christina highlighted many pathways and options the students could access, not only during their time in education, but also when they are ready to start their own adventure.
The visit has definitely helped our budding Wantrepreneurs progress with their enterprise unit. An experience that will amplify even more, the enterprise skills they’ve gathered to date.
