The Lowdown On Success!

We hope you are all enjoying your week off.

It is quieter here this week, but we have a few items for you to peruse.

Music Producer Gives Students The Lowdown

Stellar producer Mark Freegard, whose credits include work with Del Amitri, The Breeders, The Manic Street Preachers, Siouxie Sioux, Eddi Reader and Maria McKee came into the West campus last Thursday to give a guest lecture to both Sound Production and Music Business 2nd Year students.

He gave them an invaluable insight into current industry practice and the way he works when recording major label artists, discussing pre production, remixing, getting the best performance out of an artist, and copyright issues in the studio.

He also brought in a recent contract and went through it with students, explaining the legal issues he commonly deals with in his work.

The morning ended with a lively Q&A session on topics from analogue v digital to what’s your favourite song?

‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ apparently

Thanks Mark, we hope to see you again..

Electric Honey Band Success

50 of our Music Business and Events students enjoyed  the annual Scottish Alternative Music Awards, on Thursday the 12th of October, at the Garage.

Once again one of our Electric Honey bands “Shambolics” came away with best Alternative/Rock Award.

Taste of Scotland

It’s was all happening on Friday 13th October in the Park Restaurant at the Easterhouse Campus!  Hospitality and Professional Cookery students led by Drew Murray and Brenda Anderson welcomed international exchange students from Lativa, Sweden and France for a celebratory ‘Taste of Scotland’ restaurant opening day lunch.

The Level 4 and 5 students then enjoyed a Masterclass in ‘The Food of Scotland’ by food service lecturer, Brenda Anderson who is also Scotland’s ‘World Food Travel Association’ Ambassador.

New friendships around food – what could be better!

Help Our Food Banks

Learners on the NC Employability and Citizenship course at Springburn have planned a community project as part of the Self & Work and Self in Community aspects of their course.

They would be very grateful of any donations to their Food Bank collection for Glasgow NE Food banks.  They’ll be visiting and carrying out group work experience as part of their learning.

There’s a box at Springburn Reception.

Details are on the poster attached.

Many thanks indeed.

That’s everything for now.

Remember classes resume on Monday the 23rd of October.

Enjoy the weekend!
